  • Local businesses shine at Te Puke Business Excellence Awards

It was a night of celebration for our local businesses at this year’s Te Puke Business Excellence Awards last Friday evening. Held at the Te Puke Memorial Hall, awards were presented to six category winners (see photos for details).

The Bennetts Proactive Supreme award this year went to Ranfurly Orchard Services, who were also the winners of the Agricultural / Horticultural and Industrial Award. The Supreme Award goes to the overall best business out of the six category winners, as selected by the judges.

Business owners Bob and Simon Cook were both overseas on the night of the awards, on holidays organised before learning of their nomination for the awards. Speaking from Canada, Bob said that although he was disappointed not to be able to attend the awards ceremony, there was a silver lining; “Perhaps it was serendipitous that we weren’t there – it meant that the staff who do the hard work got the recognition. Our team were there to collect the award on our behalf, and it was great for them to see the recognition that the business community have for their work, rather than just Simon and I. The staff were so excited about the award after the ceremony that my phone nearly vibrated off the bedside table with text messages at 3am where we were staying in the Canadian Rockies. It was really special for the team to be recognised.”

Supreme award sponsor, Lance Ewens from Bennetts Proactive Chartered Accountants, says that this illustrates the kind of strong team ethos and attitude which helped Ranfurly Orchard Services to win the award in the first place. “The judges of the Bennetts Proactive Supreme award look at overall business excellence; including achievement, business practices and culture. We are proud to sponsor the awards which support successful and innovative Te Puke businesses like Ranfurly Orchard Services. It’s important to celebrate achievement because this provides focus, motivation and inspiration for other businesses in our community” comments Lance.
