  • Increase in the minimum wage

From 1 April 2017, the minimum adult wage will increase to $15.75 per hour, and the starting out rate or youth rate will increase to $12.60 per hour. Please make sure you adjust your employment contracts as needed. If you are paying contract rates or piece rates, make sure that the employee is capable of earning the equivalent of $15.75 per hour (or $12.60 per hour for youth). For example, if a kiwifruit picker is paid a bin rate, make sure they are able to at least earn these new minimum wage rates per hour. All holiday pay, statutory holiday pay and sick pay entitlements are in addition to these pay rates (the details should be in your employment contract). Please contact us if you are unsure about these changes.
