Employment of additional staff over the Christmas break
With a busy Christmas break approaching, your business may be required to take on additional employees for cover over this period. Employees could be employed on a Fixed Term or a Casual employment agreement. When preparing an Employment Agreement employers should ensure that it matches the employment arrangement and that the minimum statutory requirements are satisfied.
A Fixed Term contract will state an end date; the reason the employment will end; and the way in which the employment will end. A Casual contract will be an “as and when required” basis and there will be no expectation of work from one week to the next.
Automatic enrolment into KiwiSaver will also apply if the employee is aged between 18 to 64, is full time; permanent part time; a temporary contract for more than 28 days; or as a casual agricultural worker for more than 3 months.
