Backing the Boobops
Bennetts Proactive Accountants are getting behind the Boobops – a bunch of gutsy breast cancer survivors out to reclaim the National Dragon Boat title they held from 2011 to 2014 and lost by only a very narrow margin in 2015.
“If the attitude I saw out on the water is anything to go by, that title has their name written all over it” commented Lance Ewens of Bennetts Proactive after he joined the Boobops on the water for a practice session.
Bennetts Proactive supported the team’s fund-raising efforts by donating a kayak which is being raffled to raise funds for the team to attend nationals in Ashburton.
Dragon boating was first linked to breast cancer by a Canadian doctor who wanted to prove that it was good for breast cancer survivors to use their arms for strenuous exercise. It’s now a world-wide phenomenon that celebrates both the physical and mental strength of these inspiring women.
In the Bay of Plenty, the aptly named Boobops first entered the Dragon Boating arena in 2003 and now have an impressive medal haul to show for their efforts. As their name indicates they bring their trademark sense of humour to everything they do, so whilst they may take their sport seriously their motivation is more about simply getting together, having some fun and providing support for other women on a similar journey.
Tickets for the raffle are available at Bennetts Proactive on Jellicoe Street, Te Puke and will be drawn on 13 December.
